Effects of Neutron Emission on Fragment Mass and Kinetic Energy Distribution from Thermal Neutron-Induced Fission of 235U

چکیده
The mass and kinetic energy distribution of nuclear fragments from thermal neutroninduced fission of U(nth, f ) have been studied using a Monte-Carlo simulation. Besides reproducing the pronounced broadening in the standard deviation of the kinetic energy at the final fragment mass number around m = 109, our simulation also produces a second broadening around m = 125. These results are in good agreement with the experimental data obtained by Belhafaf et al. and other results on yield of mass. We conclude that the obtained results are a consequence of the characteristics of the neutron emission, the sharp variation in the primary fragment kinetic energy and mass yield curves. We show that because neutron emission is hazardous to make any conclusion on primary quantities distribution of fragments from experimental results on final quantities distributions.

Three Exit Channels in the Fission of 235U(n, f)
A formula for the fission fragment yield area in the coordinate system of the fragment total kinetic energy and of the fragment mass is presented. It was deduced along the lines of the multiexit-channel model of fission elaborated by Brosa, Grossmann and Müller. This formula was fitted to the fragment mass-, average total kinetic energy-, and variance distributions of the thermal neutron induce...

A series of measurements of neutron induced fission cross section of various TRU isotopes have been performed at the CERN n TOF spallation neutron facility, in the energy range from thermal to nearly 250MeV. The experimental apparatus consists in a fast ionization chamber (FIC), used as a fission fragment detector with a high efficiency. Good discrimination between alphas and fission fragments ...

The prompt neutron and γ emission from primary fission fragments are calculated for thermal neutron induced fission of 235U and 239Pu and for spontaneous fission of 252Cf using a Monte Carlo Hauser-Feshbach approach for the evaporation of the excited fission fragments. Remaining free model parameters, such as excitation energy sharing and initial spin distribution, are determined by comparison ...
متن کاملFission fragment mass and energy distributions as a function of incident neutron energy measured in a lead slowing-down spectrometer
A new method of measuring fission fragment mass and energy distributions as a function of incident neutron energy in the range from below 0.1 eV to 1 keV has been developed. The method involves placing a double-sided Frisch-gridded fission chamber in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s lead slowing-down spectrometer (LSDS). The high neutron flux of the LSDS allows for the measurement of the ener...
متن کاملThe VERDI fission fragment spectrometer
The VERDI time-of-flight spectrometer is dedicated to measurements of fission product yields and of prompt neutron emission data. Pre-neutron fission-fragment masses will be determined by the double time-of-flight (TOF) technique. For this purpose an excellent time resolution is required. The time of flight of the fragments will be measured by electrostatic mirrors located near the target and t...
